Established in 1973 The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway is a family run business steaming into the heart of the Lake District. You will find a fleet of lovingly restored and maintained steam locomotives on site, available to view in our engine shed, where our team of volunteers work alongside permanent staff to protect and improve our railway. We are proud to boast 2 magnificent restored and working Fairburn Class 4 MT tank engines – the only remaining locos of this type to survive. Haverthwaite station is also home to restaurant, shop, woodland walk, children’s adventure playground.

Windermere Lake Cruises is a leading tourist attraction operating in the heart of the Lake District sailing on England's largest lake. This unique collection of artefacts provides a great educational resource and can be used to build knowledge, skills and understanding enabling pupils to learn how the past is different to the present and to identify between ways of life at different times.
The museum is ideal for observation and comparison work and also demonstrates how, when and why advancements in technology have allowed for changes in materials, design and features, with similarities or striking differences so revealed.
