Security Operations Centre (SOC)
ECU computing and technology students get first-hand experience in detecting, monitoring, and responding to cyber security threats working in the largest Security Operations Centre in the Southern Hemisphere.
 
Securities and Markets Analytics and Research Teaching Lab (SMART Lab)
Business students have access to real-time, global financial market data and dual screen terminals. Thomson Reuters Refinitiv Eikon software gives them the skills to succeed as world-ready graduates in a fast-paced, globalised economy.
 
Teacher education professional experience
ECU has been at the forefront of teacher education for over 100 years and is the largest teaching school in Western Australia. We offer courses in early childhood, primary and secondary education.
 
Nursing and midwifery wards
Our state‑of‑the‑art health and wellness building incorporates high and low fidelity simulated practice wards for both nursing and midwifery that provide a safe, authentic environment for clinical skills development.
 
Giant Super Labs
ECU’s A$48 million science building houses high-tech labs in a 2,500sqm space over two floors. The outside of the building features the world’s largest Periodic Table!
 
Spielgeltent
ECU is the first university in the world to have a Spielgeltent, or mirror tent, known as The Edith. This performance venue hosts many WAAPA events and is often used during Perth Fringe World Festival, an annual highlight in the city’s entertainment calendar.

Five-star experience

 

ECU graduates have again given us a 5-star rating for teaching quality in the 2023 Good Universities Guide. This outstanding rating has now been achieved for 16 years in a row. The same report also rated ECU at 5 stars for undergraduate overall experience, skills development, student support, learning resources and learner engagement. For the second time, ECU has been rated 5 stars for postgraduate overall experience, as well as skills development, learning resources, student support and teaching quality. ECU continues to be highly regarded internationally in the following academic disciplines:

    Namesake

     

    ECU is named after Edith Dircksey Cowan, who in 1921 became the first woman to be elected to an Australian parliament. She was a passionate advocate for education and women’s rights. ECU is proud to continue her work by striving towards a more equitable world.

    ECU campus locations

     

    Our main campus is the Joondalup Campus, 25 minutes’ train ride north from Perth Central Station, and just five minutes’ walk from Joondalup station. Students can also take the free CAT (Central Area Transit) bus from the station to ECU.

    ECU Mount Lawley is only six kilometres from the Perth CBD and can be reached from the city by bus in 10-15 minutes. Known for its creative, artistic environment, the Mount Lawley campus is home to WAAPA. Most arts and humanities courses are taught here.
    ECU also has a regional campus in Bunbury, located around 200 km south of Perth. ECU South West offers a range of courses in subjects including nursing, science, teacher education, business, social work and health science.

    Subject focus: Cyber security at ECU

     

    ECU is home to Australia’s largest cyber security research and education programme and is considered a world leader in this subject. ECU is a pioneer of cyber security education in Australia, with over 15 years of experience delivering specialised cyber courses, and as home to an Academic Centre Of Excellence and two Security Operations Centres (SOC) which are the largest in the southern hemisphere found within a university. Two of ECU’s academic staff are also members of Interpol’s Cyber Crime Experts Group.
