Why it is so important to help pupils and students develop their communication skills

Communication is at the heart of everything we do. It relates to the way we make friends, express our feelings and emotions, show that we have understood, signify our acceptance or rejection of an idea, and ultimately show who we really are.

Of course, most people develop communication skills naturally as part of their growing up. But if something goes wrong during this growing-up process, and the communication skills do not develop as we might normally expect, then this can be extremely damaging for a person.

In such a situation the individual cannot express him/herself to the outside world, and people in the outside world may then either completely misunderstand the individual or shun her or him completely.

Thus such a person might find he/she has few friends, and in extreme cases is thought to have low intelligence, when in fact the individual may be of high intellectual capacity but simply doesn’t know how to express the knowledge and insights that have been gained.

This is one of many personal issues that can hinder the ability of pupils and students to make the most of the educational opportunities that are available to them at their school, and if left unresolved this is one that can leave the individual isolated and alone.

Support and funding

Fortunately there are ways in which pupils and students who suffer from communication problems can be helped. Even better, there is funding available from government to help in work of this nature.

Indeed NLP4Kids has worked with over 100 UK schools to enable them to receive funding to pay for the work that we do.

In addition, we have connections with a not-for-profit company which attracts funding that is sometimes used in the community to deliver work carried out by members of the NLP4Kids team.
